How to Write a Meta Description

A good meta description helps searchers understand the page and decide whether to click. It does not need to be clever. It needs to be clear, relevant, and aligned with the page intent.

Start with the page intent

Before writing anything, decide what the page is trying to do. A tool page usually needs a direct summary of the action. A guide page often needs a short promise about what the reader will learn.

Keep the description specific

Generic lines like "Learn more here" add no value. Mention the actual topic, the use case, and the outcome. For example, "Check title and meta description length before publishing a page" is stronger because it names the task.

Use this simple structure

  1. Name the page topic.
  2. State the benefit or outcome.
  3. Add one detail that helps the user qualify the click.

Better: Generate meta tags, check title length, and review descriptions for small SEO sites.
